Ohio man convicted in bank sexual assault gets 40 years
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an employee at a bank has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Franklin County’s prosecutor says 32-year-old Billy Dee Anderson was sentenced Tuesday in Columbus. Anderson pleaded guilty last month to kidnapping and three counts of rape.
The Columbus Dispatch reports his attorney, Thomas Hayes, says Anderson has an intellectual disability and severe mental illness. A message seeking comment was left at Hayes’ office.
Authorities say Anderson visited Columbus’ Chase Tower and asked to rent a safe deposit box in February 2016. Police say he raped the employee who accompanied him to the vault.
Prosecutor Ron O’Brien says Anderson must register as a sex offender every three months for the rest of his life after his release from prison.
