Tigers continue winning ways, 77-62
WELLSVILLE – Using a high-powered offense and accurate perimeter shooting, Wellsville downed Oak Glen 77-62 on Thursday night.
Wellsville (18-3) made nine three-pointers in the contest and outscored Oak Glen in every quarter. The Tigers’ Nate Scott led all scorers with 33 points, while Camden Douglas added 14 as well as 10 assists.
It was business as usual for the Tigers.
“It’s something we always do,” Wellsville coach Dave Thompson said of the shooting barrage. “We shot a little more than average tonight though.”
“It’s very go with the flow,” Douglas said. “We’d rather get to the bucket, but we settled for the threes.”
Coach Thompson had high praise for Douglas after the game.
“He can do more offensively, but he’s a team player. He controls the tempo of the game.”
“It’s nice having that balance,” Douglas said. “I can help clean up inside, but still be able to shoot outside and move the ball around.”
Wellsville made six of their three-pointers in the first half alone. By halftime, the Tigers had built a 34-24 lead.
That was just the beginning however, as Wellsville scored a game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter, including 17 from Scott.
“We were trying to defend them, but they can all shoot the ball fairly well,” Oak Glen coach Dave Smith said. “Scott shoots the ball very well. He doesn’t hesitate. When he gets the ball, he’s ready to shoot.”
Elsewhere for Wellsville, Seth Bradford added 10 points and 16 rebounds.
For Oak Glen (3-18), Taylor Kincaid had 15 points and six rebounds. Matt McLaughlin, David McGraw, and Kyle Woodruff added nine points apiece.
Oak Glen will begin sectional play when they host Weirton on Saturday. Wellsville finishes their regular season at Toronto on Saturday.
Wellsville’s game on Saturday against Toronto will be the last in the Red Knights’ old gym.
