Potters, Beavers compete in swimming sectionals

STEUBENVILLE – The swimming postseason got underway on Saturday with the East District Sectionals held in Steubenville.

Dover came out on top in the team rankings in both the boys and girls competition.

The highest local team finish went to the East Liverpool boys team which finished in 13th place with 113 points.

The Beaver Local boys were one spot behind in 14th place with 112 points. Edison finished 20th with 11 1/2 points, while Carrollton was 21st with 11 points.

On the girls side, Edison took ninth place with 104 points, while Beaver Local placed 13th with 60 points.

East Liverpool came in 18th with 29 points, while Carrollton was 21st with 10 points.

The East Liverpool boys 200 medley relay team (Ian Smith, Stefan Yoho, Matt Campbell, Kyle Stevens) finished fifth in 1:58.33.

Campbell took fourth place in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.61.

Beaver Local’s Laura Keenan had the best individual finish of local competitors. Keenan finished second in the 100 Breastroke (1:15.68) and was also sixth in the 100 Butterfly (1:12.09).

David Lorah placed seventh in the 100 Butterfly (1:10.48) for the Beavers.

Beaver Local’s Justin Maurer finished seventh in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 55.79 and took sixth place in the 100 Backstroke (1:05.15).

The Beaver Local boys 400 Freestyle relay team (Maurer, Lorah, Troy Kotsch, Max Littleton) finished in fourth place in 3:50.82.

Claire Meredith came in seventh place in the 100 Breaststroke (1:18.76).

District qualifiers will be announced late Sunday afternoon after sectional competition is completed.
