Bulldogs set to open up against Lakers
MINERAL RIDGE – The Bulldogs are all alone.
The East Palestine girls’ basketball team is the lone local team scheduled to be taking part in the Ohio Division III Northeast District Tournament at Mineral Ridge.
All told, there are 13 teams scheduled to participate in the tournament. The tournament is slated to begin Feb. 16.
East Palestine is seeded 12th in the tournament.
The 12 non-local teams in the tournament are top-seeded United, No. 2 seed Newton Falls, No. 3 seed Pymatuning Valley, No. 4 seed Girard, No. 5 seed Youngstown Ursuline, No. 6 seed Champion, No. 7 seed Grand Valley, No. 8 seed LaBrae, No. 9 seed South Range, No. 10 seed Brookfield, No. 11 seed Springfield and No. 13 seed Campbell Memorial.
Three games are scheduled for Feb. 16.
East Palestine is scheduled to play in the tournament opener at 1 p.m. against Pymatuning Valley. At 2:30 p.m., Grand Valley will take on Champion. Finally at 4 p.m., Girard is scheduled to take on LaBrae.
Two games are scheduled for Feb. 19.
In the first game, South Range is scheduled to play Brookfield at 6 p.m., while United is slated to play against Campbell in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m.
Two games are scheduled for Feb. 21.
In the first game, Springfield is scheduled to play the winner of the East Palestine-Pymatuning Valley game at 6 p.m.. Also, Newton Falls will take on the winner of the Grand Valley-LaBrae game at 7:30 p.m. in the nightcap.
Two more games are scheduled for Feb. 23.
At 6 p.m, Ursuline will play the winner of the Girard-LaBrae game in the first game of the night. Also scheduled for that night, the winners of the South Range-Brookfield and United-Campbell games will play at 7:30 p.m.
The district semifinals are scheduled for Feb. 28. In the first semifinal scheduled to start at 6 p.m., the winners of the games held on Feb. 21 will play. Then at 8 p.m., the winners of the games played on Feb. 23 will play in the second semifinal of the night. That game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The district final is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. March 2.
