Edison pours it on Potters

EAST LIVERPOOL–The East Liverpool baseball team opened the season with a 20-2 loss to Edison Monday.

Trevor Wern had a hit and two runs scored for the Potters. Devin Toothman, Kamren Klakos, Logan Bennett and Derek Klein each singled.

The Potters are at Steubenville today.

LISBON–The United baseball team rallied for five seventh-inning runs to surge past Lisbon 5-3 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opending day action Monday.

United pitcher Shane Black singled home the go-ahead run for the Eagles and also earned the complete-game victory with 10 strikeouts and four walks. He gave up three unearned runs.

Parker Hydrick also helped the Eagles at the plate with a double and a single. Adam Magnuson added a single and two RBIs.

Lisbon pitcher Logan Bell domnated the Eagles through the first six innings with 13 strikeouts and one walk before he was removed.

Garrett Cox took the loss, surrendering five unearned runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning.

Josh Entrikin singled twice for the Blue Devils.

COLUMBIANA — Chase Franken gave up two unearned runs in the first inning before finishing off East Palestine with six shutout innings in Columbiana’s 5-2 season-opening win Monday.

Franken struck out 11 and gave up three hits.

Wayne Davis sparked the Clippers with an RBI double and a run in the second inning. Ryan Fahs also had an RBI single in the fourth.

For the Bulldogs, Connor Elliott had a leadoff double and scored.

East Paaestine hosts Chaney today. Columbiana will play at East Palestine on Wednesday.

LEETONIA–The Southern baseball team rolled past Leetonia 13-3 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference baseball action Monday.

Josh Pratt earned the win for the Indians (1-1, 1-1 EOAC) with 11 strikeouts and five walks over five innings of work.

Conner Lewis smacked a solo homer for Southern, while Pratt and Brock Smalley each collected two singles.

Southern hosts Leetonia for its home opener on Wednesday.

Jake Gehring hurled six shutout innings with 8 strikouts and no walks to earn the win. Trey Pancake picked up the save.

CALCUTTA–Beaver Local was dealt a 14-1 loss by Indian Creek in season opening baseball action Monday.

Coy Amis picked up a five-inning no-hitter for the Redskins with nine strikeouts and one walk.

The two teams play again Wednesday at Indian Creek.

The Eagles scored two runs in each the first and second innings to get the early lead.

Heartland will play at Jackson-Milton today.
