Warriors’ league streak ends at 32

CANTON — West Branch had its 32-game league winning streak come to end Wednesday as the Warriors dropped a 36-32 decision at Canton South.

The Warriors are 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, tied with Salem for the league lead.

Canton South, which lost 39-38 at Salem on Saturday, is 11-3 and 4-3 EBC.

Makyala Smith led the Wildcats with 11 points and Megan Mitchell grabbed six rebounds.

West Branch opened up a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and led 24-22 at halftime. The Warriors were limited to two points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth quarter.

Grace Heath and Anna Lippiatt paced West Branch with nine points apiece. Jessica Bock and Carly Scarpitti both pulled down six rebounds.

The Wariors won the junior varsity game, 34-28.

West Branch will host Minerva on Saturday.

Southern 36, Edison 31

SALINEVILLE — Riley Felton’s triple-double highlighted Southern Local’s 36-31 win over Edison on Wednesday.

Felton totaled 21 points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocks along with five steals and three assists to lead the Indians, who improve to 3-11 on the season.

Hannah Hayes added five rebounds and three blocks, Sam Michael five assists and four rebounds, Lindsay Ingledue five steals and Abrianna Mellott three steals,

The Indians opened up a 20-9 halftime lead and never looked back.

Edison won the junior varsity game, 24-13. Scott scored 11 points for the Wildcats. Alexia Phillis had eight points for the Indians.

Southern will play at Wellsville today.
