Quakers making strides

SALEM — Salem was hitting on cylinders in a 73-46 win over Beaver Local on Thursday in girls basketball action.

Echo Mayer-Kutz guided the 4-1 Quakers with 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks. Ellie Davidson contributed 10 points, six rebounds, and six steals. Kyla Jamison added 10 points, five rebounds and two assists. Paige Bailey had two points but also had five offensive rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Beaver Local’s Jenna Riccardo had 24 points to lead all scorers.

Salem won the jayvee game, 58-23. Abby Perry had 11 points, while Rylie Troy added 10 points. Alanee Davidson Chuck had six points and 10 boards.

Salem hosts Alliance at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The jayvees will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a game against Western Reserve. Past state qualifying basketball teams will be honored in between the jayvee and varsity games.

Beaver Local hosts Indian Creek on Monday.

South Range 72, Lakeview 33

GREENFORD — South Range’s girls basketball team beat Lakeview 72-33 in Northeast 8 action on Thursday.

Izzy Lamparty had 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Brianna Modic had 17 points to lead the Raiders.

Leetonia 48, Wellsville 37

WELLSVILLE –Anna Buffone scored 12 of her 17 points in the first and fourth quarters as Leetonia downed Wellsville 48-37 on Thursday in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference game.

Taran Ferry added nine points for the winners, 3-0, 2-0.

Wellsville is 0-4, 0-2.

Hunter Weekley had nine points and eight rebounds. Camryn Jackson had 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals.

Leetonia hosts Campbell on Saturday.

Wellsville is at Southern on Monday.

Leetonia won the jayvee game, 34-14.

HANOVERTON — United came on strong in the second half to defeat Toronto 42-32 on Thursday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Loren Swords had 14 points to spark the Eagles, 2-2, 1-1. Celeste Hofmeister had 11 points.

United won the two-quarter jayvee game.

United is at Leetonia on Monday.

MINERAL RIDGE — Dani Vuletich had 25 points and 13 rebounds as Western Reserve beat Mineral Ridge 83-34 on Thursday.

Laura Sigworth added 13 points and six rebounds.

Western Reserve won the jayvee portion, 46-16. Emma Heater had 17 points for the Devils.
