Salem boys, girls off to Boardman

CORTLAND — The Salem boys and girls cross country teams will have some company at the Boardman regional meet next Saturday.

The South Range boys also advanced by claiming the fifth and final regional berth at the Trumbull Division II district meet Saturday.

The Salem boys finished second with 94 points and South Range was fifth with 137 points, one ahead of Hawken. Garrettsville Garfield defended its district title with 86 points.

Junior Hunter Christopher led the Quakers by placing second, covering the 3.1-mile course at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds in 16 minutes, 25 seconds.

South Range senior Luke Baun wasn’t far behind in third place.

Joining Christopher on the Salem squad were sophomore Grant Menough in 19th, junior Cameron Christopher 20th, senior Trey Double 22nd, senior Owen Kirkland 31st and sophomore Jacob McLachlan 32nd.

Baun led the South Range boys that also includes senior Nick Millison in 15th, sophomore Michael Hvizdos 33rd, sophomore Connor Nichols 42nd and sophomore Isaac Baun 44th.

The Salem girls placed third with 84 points, trailing Hawken with 58 and Poland with 63.

The Quakers featured a pair of runners under the 20-minute mark, senior Haley Rozeski in fourth and sophomore Carly Hall in seventh.

They were joined by freshman Clara Double in 12th, sophomore Halle Cochran 23rd and freshman Alanee Davidson-Chuck 38th.

The top five teams and top 20 individuals advance to the Boardman regional next weekend.
