Eagles, Quakers ousted; Warriors, Raiders prevail

HANOVERTON — Sixth-seeded Ravenna Southeast stunned second-seeded United with a 2-1 win in double overtime on Monday in a Div. III district semifinal. Madison Montgomery scored the lone goal for the Eagles, while Maddie Briecke has 11 saves in goal.

United ends its campaign at 13-5. The Eagles’ other losses on the season were twice to Salem and one each to Champion and Springfield Local. Southeast reached the district semifinal by ending Springfield Local’s season.

Southeast will meet South Range at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Division III district final at Niles’ Bo Rein Stadium.

South Range 3, Lordstown 2

LORDSTOWN — South Range’s girls soccer team reached its first district final in school history as the Raiders upset the top-seeded Lordstown Red Devils with a 3-2 win on Monday.

South Range (12-7) will meet Southeast at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Division III district final at Niles’ Bo Rein Stadium.

West Branch 1, Poland 0

BELOIT — Alexis Biery’s goal in the 48th minute was all West Branch needed in a 1-0 win over Poland on Monday in a Div. II district semifinal.

Olivia McLean provided the assist on the game-winner. Sam Plocher had eight saves in goal.

West Branch is 16-0-2 and has not allowed a goal in six games. The Warriors, ranked eighth in the state in the final Div. II coaches poll, advances to meet Cardinal Mooney at 7 p.m. on Thursday at South Range High School.

Mooney played West Branch to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 10 and has won 12 straight since that time.

Cardinal, Mooney 2, Salem 1

YOUNGSTOWN — Cardinal Mooney’s girls soccer team clawed out a 2-1 victory over Salem on Monday in a Division II district semifinal at Youngstown State University.

Mooney’s victory was its 12th straight and ended Salem’s season at 13-5-1. Salem won eight straight to start the season but lost four of its last six games.

The Quakers had lost to Mooney 5-1 in a regular season meeting at YSU on Oct. 1.

Scoring the lone goal for the Quakers was Lydia McKee off of a free kick.

Cardinal Mooney (12-3-4) will meet state-ranked West Branch at 7 p.m. on Thursday at South Range High School to decide the district championship.
