Force sisters lead NHRA event

NORWALK (AP) — Sisters Brittney and Courtney Force topped their divisions Friday in rain-shortened qualifying at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

Brittany Force had a 3.776-second pass at 324.44 mph in Top Fuel.

“That pass was very important for our team,” Brittany Force said. “With the rain you don’t know how many laps you’re going to get in before race day. The conditions were great, and we just went straight down there.”

Courtney Force ran a 3.935 at 327.66 in Funny Car. Father John Force was fourth in Funny Car with a 3.991 at 325.22.

The two nitro categories were limited to one session.

Matt Smith led the Pro Stock Motorcycle field with a 6.866 at 195.39.

The Pro Stock cars were unable to take the track because of the rain.
