United slams Southern, 22-1

SALINEVILLE–The United softball team kept its hold atop the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 22-1 win over Southern Wednesday.

The Eagles are now 8-6 overall and 8-1 in the EOAC, one game in front of Columbiana and East Palestine.

Annie Paterson powered the United onslaught with a grand slam and a double. The Eagles set the tone with 11 first-inning runs.

Erin Boyle tripled for the Indians.

United faces Mathews today in the Mahoning Valley Invitational.

LIBERTY–The Crestview softball team won its fifth straight game by destroying Liberty 24-1 on Wednesday.

Brittany Coblentz led the way for Crestview with a home run, two doubles, a single and five RBIs. She was far from the only contributer as Courtney Gilbert collected three singles and four RBIs, while Alisha Steeves had four singles and three RBIs. Baylie Bettura added two doubles, two singles and two RBIs.

The Rebels open Division III sectional play Monday at Ravenna Southeast.

Canton South 5

CANTON — Taylor Thorpe singled, double and scored three runs to lead Salem to a 6-5 win over Canton South in eight innings on Wednesday.

Thorpe also got the win in the circle striking out 10. She also set the school record for wins in a season with 12.

Sydney Kline doubled for the Quakers and Hayden Carner, Alyssa Laubacher, Brooke Veglia, Jessica Slocum and Elly Exline all had hits. Canton South’s Morgan Dalton homered and doubled.

Salem is 13-10.

Beaver 3, Bellaire 1

CALCUTTA–The Beaver Local softball team fell to Bellaire 3-1 in Buckeye 8 Athletic League action Wednesday.

The Beavers are now 3-15 overall.

Mikayala Shulas had an RBI single for the Beavers. Hannah Call added a double.

The Beavers are back in action Saturday when they host a Division II sectional opener against Zanesville at 1 p.m.

EAST LIVERPOOL — Maddy Brown broke the East Liverpool school record for strikeouts in a game with 20 as the Potters knocked off Union Local 4-0 in a Buckeye 8 Athletic League contest on Wednesday.

The previous record was 17.

Karley Golden had a double for the Potters, while Shaylynn Stovall, Brown and Hannah Newlin had singles. Brown and Stovall had RBIs.

BELOIT — It’s not going to be an unbeaten regular season for the West Branch softball team.

Sarah Cantley struck out 10 and blanked the Warriors in Louisville’s 3-0 win on Wednesday in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference encounter.

West Branch falls to 17-1 and 9-1 in the league.

Kelsey Byers had two hits for West Branch who is at Canton South today.

MCDONALD — Springfield secured a share of the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference with a 1-0 win over McDonald in eight innings.

Makenzy Capouellez had two singles and was strong on defense for the 17-3, 12-2 Tigers. Mya Duskey added a double.

Cassie Bacon’s double in the eighth score Marlie Applegarth to win the game for the Tigers.
