Moore, Hall win in first round
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Oak Glen’s Shawn Moore and Peyton Hall got their state tournament off to a good start with convincing victories during the first session of the AA/A 71st annual West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament Thursday at Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
Shawn Moore got his tournament rolling with a 10-1 major decision over Herbert Hoover’s Tyler Teel in the 113-pound bracket.
Hall followed in the 132-pound bracket with a pin over Oak Hill’s Seth martin at the 3:16 mark.
The other three Oak Glen state qualifiers all started with losses.
Camden Barr dropped a 14-0 major decision to Point Park’s Christopher Smith in the 106-pound bracket.
In 126-pound action, Oak Glen’s Gavin Ray lost 9-3 to Mitchell Freeman, also from Point Park.
Lastly, Oak Glen’s Kyler Flanigan dropped a 6-3 decision to Jaden Marino from Robert C. Boyd in the 195-pound bracket.
The second session with AA/A and AAA quarterfinals in the championship bracket begins at 11:30 a.m. today.
The first and second rounds of the consolation bracket start shortly after. The third session (championship semifinals and third-round consolation matches) starts at 7:30 p.m.
