EAST LIVERPOOL– East Liverpool won a nail-biter against Indian Creek 51-47 in Buckeye 8 Athletic League action on Friday night at East Liverpool Fieldhouse.

East Liverpool’s (1-1) Peyton Reed took a crucial charge from Indian Creek’s Brennon Norris with a minute remaining to help the Potters pull away after trailing 45-44 with less than two minutes remaining.

East Liverpool 32-27 at halftime.

“We were trying too much in the first half,” Conley said. “We were dribbling the ball too much and they were over-playing us in the passing lanes.”

The Potters outscored the Redskins 11-5 in the third quarter in a key point for the team.

“We had some backdoor plays to begin the second half to loosen up the defense,” Conley said. “We started gaining some confidence and our defense was playing great.”

East Liverpool finished the game with 18 steals.

“You don’t turn Indian Creek over easily,” Conley said. “Credit to Brendan O’Hara and Nick Woodyard who played tremendous defense.”

Woodyard finished the game with five steals.

“East Liverpool played great,” Indian Creek coach Joe Dunlevy said. “They played hard and they beat us in the fundamentals of the game.”

“East Liverpool is a young team and they will only get better,” Dunlevy said.

Indian Creek drops to 0-2 and will travel to St. Clairsville today.

“We have to play tomorrow night so we don’t have much time to feel sorry for ourselves,” Dunlevy said.

Also for East Liverpool, Tre Jackson and Peyton Reed both had nine points.

“This was a crucial game for us and they got it done,” Conley said.

East Liverpool will compete in the Midland Hall of Fame Tip-Off against Beaver County Christian Boys at Geneva College 3:30 p.m. Today.
