Beavers do well at MIT
MEDINA — Beaver Local’s wrestling team tackled some tough competition on Wednesday and Thursday at the Medina Invitational Tournament.
Beaver Local finished 10th in the very deep field which featured top talent from around the state.
“The MIT is known to be one of the toughest tournaments in the state,” Beaver Local wrestling coach Jordan Williams said. “You have to come in and compete at a high level. Our kids battled and competed the last two days. As a team our effort and focus were at a high level.”
For the Beavers, Cole McComas took fourth at 120, while Skyler Lasure was fourth at 132. Logan Krulik was sixth at 160.
“Great competition magnifies weaknesses,” Williams said. “Our schedule is built to test and prepare our kids for the state tournament. We saw some areas of need. We will continue work and get better to reach out goals.”
In middle school action, Beaver Local finished third out of 51 teams at the Cambridge Invitational.
Placing for the Beavers was Jaymin Salsberry (92, 2nd place), Landon Landfried (103, 4th), Chance Wooley (110, 5th), Logan Ours (122, 1st), Joe Monte (128, 4th), Brenden Severs (160, 1st), Tristin Murphy (172, 7th) and Zane McCoy (205, 8th).
Wheeling Park Duals
WHEELING, W.Va–The East Liverpool wrestling team won a pair of matches Thursday at the Wheeling Park Duals.
The Potters defeated Buckeye Local 60-19 and Buckhannon Upshur (WV) 60-21.
East Liverpool also fell 42-30 to Wheeling Park, 36-32 to George Washington (WV) and 45-35 to Massillon Jackson.
Howard Williams and Jonathan Potts each had a perfect day for East Liverpool with 5-0 records.
Gage Walker, Michael Loy, Levi Turner and Ryan Fox all compiled 4-1 records. Skylar Wooley and Anthony Mecum each went 3-2.
