Rebels, Eagles set up district clash
SALEM–The top-seeded Crestview volleyball team got its postseason off and running with a 25-14, 26-24, 25-22 victory over eighth-seeded South Range in a Div. III sectional final Thursday at Cabas Gymnasium.
The Rebels improve to 19-4 overall and will take on fourth-seeded United in a district semifinal at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
MacKenzie Daub powered the Rebels with 15 kills and two blocks. Daub recorded her 1,000 career kill during the match. The senior now has a career total of 1,005.
Emily Emch provided 12 kills, eight points and five blocks for the Rebels.
Also for Crestview, Haley Eskra finished with 20 assists, eight points, eight digs and three aces, while Natasha Salmen added 22 digs. Tess Neville chipped in nine kills. Brenna Auer had five kills, four digs and three points.
United 3, Springfield 2
SALEM–United held on to defeat Springfield 25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 24-26, 15-11 on Thursday night in a Div. III sectional final at Cabas Gymnasium.
For United, Camryn Jarrett had 39 kills, five aces, two blocks, nine digs and 12 points. Cameron Pierson had 55 assists, three aces and 16 points. Rachel Bowen had 18 kills, one block, four aces and 11 points on the night for the Eagles.
United advances to face top-seeded Crestview at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Beaver Local 3, Cambridge 0
CALCUTTA–Third-seeded Beaver Local downed 14h-seeded Cambridge 25-21, 26-24, 28-26 in a Div. II volleyball sectional final Thursday.
For the Beavers, Morgan Bouscher had four kills. Megan Buchheit had two aces, four kills, 16 assists and 13 points. Abbey Jackson had six kills. Madi Kendall had 12 assists and five digs. Reed McGeehan had seven kills, 12 digs and eight points. Jillian O’Hara had five points. Carmen Pugliano had 12 digs and three points. Madison Smith had 11 kills and four blocks. Abbey Wilcox had six points.
The Beavers advance to take on sixth-seeded Carrollton in a district semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Steubenville High School.
West Branch 3, Streetsboro 1
BELOIT–The fifth-seeded West Branch Warriors defeated the fourth-seeded Streetsboro Rockets 25-16, 27-25, 22-25, 25-20 in a Div. II sectional final Thursday.
For West Branch, Sammie Tuel had 12 points and 19 digs. Elise Wallace had 12 points, 13 kills and 19 digs. Claire Smith had 23 digs. Annie Meneggay had five blocks. Delaney Rito had 12 kills.
West Branch is now 11-12 on the season and advances to take on top-seeded Marlington at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Columbiana 3, Lake Center Christian 1
COLUMBIANA–Columbiana beat Lake Center Christian 25-20, 23-25, 27-25, 25-22 on Thursday night in Div. IV sectional action.
For Columbina, Morgan Highley had four aces, 10 points, seven kills and 23 digs. Emily Gosselin had five aces, 15 points, 15 assists and 16 digs. Alexis Cross had two aces, 11 points, 11 kills and 15 digs. Marisa McDonough had 12 kills and a block.
Columbiana advances to face top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
St. Thomas Aquinas 3, Jackson-Milton 0
COLUMBIANA–The Jackson-Milton volleyball team season came to an end with a 25-11, 25-11, 25-10 loss to top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas.
For Jackson-Milton, Julia Bogden had seven points. Grace McDevitt had five points, six kills and three blocks. Ashley Cameron had five kills and two blocks.
