Maroscher closes out college career

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Salem High School graduate Mitch Maroscher went down fighting in his final collegiate tennis matches on Saturday in a Horizon League semifinal at the Varsity Tennis Center.

Playing No. 1 singles, Youngstown State senior Maroscher hung tough agianst three-time Horizon League Player of the Year Jeffrey Schorsch of Valparaiso before losing 6-4, 6-3.

Valpo won the match 4-3 and advanced to the championship final against Cleveland State to be played today.

Maroscher and doubles partner Thomas Rodrigues had their No. 1 doubles match against Schorsch and Dave Bacalla stopped at 6-6 after Valpo locked up the second and third doubles matches.

Maroscher, who now plans to head to Europe to pursue professional tournament opportunities, finished the season 19-13 in singles. Maroscher and Rodrigues finished their doubles campaign at 21-10.

YSU (19-8) set a school record for dual matches won this season.
