Meet the Indians night

SALINEVILLE — Meet the Indians Night will be held at 6 p.m. today in the Southern Local High School gym.

Al Beach Classic today

BOARDMAN — The 47th annual Al Beach Classic — featuring some of the top senior basketball players from Columbiana, Mahoning and Columbiana counties — will be held tonight at Boardman High School.

The girls game will start at 6 p.m. and the boys game at 7:30 p.m. There will be a three-point shootout for girls and boys between the games. Among the area representatives in the girls game are Lisbon’s Karlee Pezzano and coach Jamie Entrikin.

Columbiana’s Todd Johnson will coach the Mahoning Team, which includes Columbiana’s Burdette Baker, Salem’s Jon Gerace, United’s Jake Clark, South Range’s Dan Ritter and Anthony Ritter, Springfield’s Jake Ford, and Sebring’s Rob Rouse.

County Classic next week

LISBON — The 32nd annual Columbiana County Classic, featuring 20 of the top senior boys and girls basketball players in the county, will be held Tuesday, March 28, at Lisbon High School.

The girls game will start at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Dodgeball tournament in East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE — The East Palestine Community Foundation is seeking teams for the annual Dodgeball Tournament to be held at 6 p.m. April 1 in the high school gymnasium. Entry fee is $80 per team. For more information, call Nate Foster at (330) 610-2359.

Ashland in Elite Eight

COLUMBUS — Top-ranked Ashland is in the NCAA Division II Women’s Elite Eight, which will be held today at Alumni Hall on the campus of Ohio Dominican University.

Ashland (34-0) will take on Virginia Union (26-4) at 6 p.m., the third of four games today. Ashland is averaging 93.9 points per game.

One of Ashland’s top players off the bench is 6-foot-2 freshman Sara Loomis, Malvern High School’s career scoring leader.

Loomis has played in 32 games, averaging 6.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 12.6 minutes per game. She is shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 76.5 percent from the foul line.

Lincoln Park in state final

AMBRIDGE, Pa. — Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter school booked its spot in the state championship game with a 54-46 win over North Catholic in the PIAA Class 3A state boys semifinal basketball game on Monday at Ambridge High School.

Nelly Cummings led the winners with 29 points.

Lincoln Park (25-5) will play the winner of today’s Neumann-Goretti-Delaware Valley Charter game at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey.
