South Range survives

GREENFORD -The South Range girls soccer team beat Warren JFK 2-1 on Saturday to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Freshman Renee Bishop opened the scoring with her first varsity goal and junior Makenzie Ferenchak added another later in the first half. Kendall Lindstrom assisted on both goals and Cat Schuler had seven saves in goal. Aundrea Scattino made things close scoring a late goal for JFK.

South Range travels to United on Wednesday for a showdown with the defending ITCL champions.

Chester has title hopes

YOUNGSTOWN – Chester’s Oldtimers advanced to the championship game of the 50+ Baseball League with a 2-0 win over Boardman on Sunday at Pemberton Park.

It’s the fourth straight year Chester has made it to the title game.

Bill Sattler scattered three hits in the shutout on the mound. Lou Ward’s two-run double sparked Chester offensively. Mark Swartzfiger had two hits.

Chester advances to meet the winner of Greenville (Pa.)-Boardman at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Pemberton Park. If Chester should lose on Saturday, it would play again at 1 p.m. on Sunday to decide the title in the double-elimination tournament.
