Potters early goals lead to victory over Big Red

EAST LIVERPOOL-The East Liverpool soccer team jumped to an early three-goal lead and hung on for a 3-2 win over Steubenville Monday.

Klayton Kosek led the Potters (2-0) with two goals, while Briar Meek had one goal and Shane Talbott and Nick Pelley each had an assist.

Zack Adkins had seven saves in goal for the Potters.

East Liverpool hosts Harrison Central Wednesday.

West Branch 4, United 1

BELOIT-The West Branch soccer team opened its season with a 4-1 victory over United Monday.

The Warriors (1-0) were led by Bailey Polinori with three goals, Hayley Davis had one goal and Melinda Trimmer had two assists.

Lea Bock had three saves in goal.

The Warrior jayvee team tied the Eagles 2-2.

Heartland 7, Campbell 2

COLUMBIANA-The Heartland soccer team rolled over Campbell 7-2 in its season opener Monday.

Titus Sommers led the charge for the Lions with four goals, while Daniel Brandenstein had two and Elizabeth Curtis one.

Nathan Sommers assisted on all seven goals for the Lions (1-0). Ben Burgess had nine saves in goal.

Heartland is at South Range Wednesday.
