Super Nats set record
SALEM – The Stadium GM Superstore Steel Valley Super Nationals will be held at Quaker City Motorsports Park this weekend with a record of approximately 5,000 vehicles preregistered, according to promoter Corey Ward.
The Super Nats is billed as Ohio’s largest motorsports entertainment event and features top dragsters, muscle cars and mild-to-wild street machines from over 14 states.
Ward said about 3,000 hot rods and 2,000 drag racers have preregistered.
The Stadium GM Superstore Steel Valley Super Nationals will take place Friday from 9 a.m. to l a.m,; Saturday from 9 a.m. to l a.m.; and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to the rumble, roar and tire smoke, two nationally-known concert venues will keep the event going into the night as Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil and special guest Haymaker will take the stage Friday night. That performance will be followed by a “massive” Phantom Fireworks Super Show.
Neil will be playing favorite Crue songs. Bret Michaels with special guest The Huckin’ Fillbillys will take the stage Saturday night. Michaels will be playing favorite Poison songs and has released songs such as “All I Ever Needed” and “The App Song” to country radio. He has shared the stage with country music artists such as Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Jake Owen.
Fans can still buy day passes and weekend passes at the gate all weekend during the show.
“We will not sell out,” Ward said.
Day passes are $15 per person. The weekend pass is $50, good for two people, and includes all the racing you want, in-and-out privileges all weekend, camping, and the concerts.
The Super Nats will also feature a record number of vendors displaying the latest automotive products.
Ward said that to meet the demands of the large crowds expected, the event has increased the number of food vendors to 40 with two national rib vendors from Texas and North Carolina.
“To limit traffic congestion and to accommodate the record crowds expected, we have leased property next to the drag strip and will be working out of the old Quaker City entrance,” Ward said.
There will be Hot Rod Car Cruise to Quaker Steak & Lube in Austintown for the after party.
The Salem Super Cruise also will be held in downtown all weekend beginning at 4 p.m. today at Arby’s and the Timberlanes lot.
