TENNIS: Juszczak alive in state tennis

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Oak Glen’s Madison Juszczak remains alive in the West Virginia state singles tennis tournament at Kanawha City.

Juszczak defeated Kelsey Self of Petersburg 8-2 Thursday in the second singles match, and will face Alyse Lewis of St. Joseph in the semifinals today. Juszczak, who won the regional championship, earned a bye in the first round.

Also competing for the Golden Bear girls, Haley Spurlock beat out Sara Walker in the first round 8-1 in the first singles match, but bowed out of the tournament after she was defeated by Chrsitina Centofant of Charleston Catholic, 8-5.

Madison Hill made an early exit from the tournament as she fell to Alex Lewis of Bluefield 8-3 in the third singles match.

In the boys tournament, Addison Sayre beat Nathan English of Wyoming East 8-2 in the first singles match of the first round, but saw his tournament run end as he fell to Alec Moran of Lincoln High, 8-1.
