Quakers settle for second

SALEM- Salem came close again a the 22nd annual F.E. Cope Boys Invitational.

The Quakers finished second for the fourth straight year as Canton McKinley ran away with the team title Friday.

McKinley won four events on the way to totaling 140 points in the 11-team field. Salem was second with 98 and West Branch had four winners to take third with 79.

The Warriors won three field events with Jake Zinni taking first in the discus (161-feet-7), Andrew Filp in the shot put (51-9) and Zach Robbins in the high jump (6-6), while Anthony Miner won the 800-meter run (2:15.07).

The Salem relay teams all had strong showings, led by the winning 800 relay team of Haedan Panezott, Marcus Crittenden, Brandon Kitts and Daniel Rumsey (1:33.62). The Quakers also finished second in the 1600 and 3200 and placed third in the 400. Zach Morris finished second for the Quakers in the 3200 run.

For East Palestine, Nick Monteleone won the long jump (21-0), while Joe Caporale finished second in the 1600 run.
