Johnson paces Lisbon at Early Bird Invite

STEUBENVILLE – Sara Johnson paced the Lisbon girls track team in Saturday’s season opener as she placed in two events at the Steubenville Early Bird Invitational.

Johnson was third in the shot put (30-feet-3 1/2) and sixth in the discus (78-8).

Other individual placers for the Blue Devils were Bobbi Jo Evans in the 400-meter dash (65.83 seconds) and Carmen Phillips in the 1600-meter run (6:17.75).

Wheeling Park edged Oak Glen to win the girls team title, 136-131.

Kelsey Chambers led Oak Glen captured high-point honors with wins in the 1600-meter run (5:44.84) and 3200-meter run (12:18.80) and also was a member of the winning 3200 relay team (10:59.90). Alexis Burch also won the 100 dash (12.90).

Glenville topped nine boys teams with 125 points, followed by Oak Glen with 92.

Winners for the Golden Bears were Staley in the discus (130-0) and Weltner in the high jump (5-8).
