East Palestine’s Reiser grabs All-Ohio berth

COLUMBUS – As East Palestine’s only returning starter entering the season, the Bulldogs needed senior Austen Reiser to step up his game.

He did more than that as he was named to the 2012-13 Associated Press Division III All-Ohio boys basketball team released Tuesday.

Reiser earned third-team honors, East Palestine’s highest All-Ohio selection since Dan Hanolt was named to the Division III second team in 2007.

The area’s top rebounder, Reiser led the Bulldogs in scoring (21.8), rebounds (13.8) and blocked shots (4.8) along with 3.0 assists a game.

Wellsville junior Nate Scott received special mention in Division IV.

Scott led the Tigers to a 21-4 season and a share of their first Inter-Tri County League lower tier title since 2008. He averaged a team-high 21.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists a game.

Getting honorable mention were Southern Local senior Luke Griffith and Heartland Christian sophomore Glen Hoffman in Division IV and Springfield senior Eoghan Bees in Division III.

Griffith averaged a team-high 17.9 points and 4.0 rebounds as Southern Local enjoyed a 16-7 season, one win away from their most ever.

Hoffman highlighted Heartland’s impressive 18-5 season as he averaged a team-high 17.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game.

Bees sparked the Tigers to consecutive Inter-Tri County League upper tier titles. He averaged a team-high 14.4 points and 4.0 assists a game.
