WELLSVILLE- Buckeye Water District (BWD) customers will now have the option of paying their water bill using a debit or credit card.
At their regular meeting Thursday, board members announced they have been working for some time to make credit and debit card payments an option for the district's customers. Board members recently met with representatives of the Northfield, Ohio based payment processing firm F&E PaymentPros. The firm will provide BWD with the ability to accept credit and debit cards online or at their office.
The credit and debit card payment service is expected to be integrated into the water district's website once it is up and running, allowing customers to pay online. Board members briefly discussed the possibility of allowing customers to pay by phone using credit or debit cards but opted not to due to security concerns.
The service comes at one-time cost of $2,250 to the water district, plus a $175 monthly fee. A "minimal fee" will be assessed to customers who chose to pay with their credit or debit cards, according to board members.
"We have a lot of people who come down to our office and want to pay with credit or debit cards-it make things a lot easier," said District Manager Al DeAngelis.
The board unanimously approved contracting with F&E Payment Pros for credit and debit card payment services.
