EAST LIVERPOOL - Robert Leo Dietz, 91, of East Liverpool, died Monday evening at the Hospice House in Poland.
He was born April 13, 1923, the son of the late Albin J. and Leola Burlingame Dietz, and lived his entire life in East Liverpool and Chester, W.Va.
Mr. Dietz was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force. A second lieutenant, he was a P-47 pilot and a member of the Orange Trail Squadron, and had also been a prisoner of war in Germany.
He was associated with the Crucible Steel Corp., from 1950 until its closing, retiring as a supervisor. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Heidi M. Dietz of East Liverpool; two sons, Dan E. Dietz of East Liverpool and Christopher R. Dietz, of Glenmoor; a sister, "Wym" Dietz Nicholson of Illinois; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jan Ruhe Dietz DeCarlo, and a son, Hans F. Dietz.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Eric M. Edwards of the church will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Riverview Cemetery.
