NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. - Organized horse racing in West Virginia dates back more than two centuries, to the days when Charles Washington (brother of George) staged meets in the roadways that led to what became Charles Town. Saturday's card for the Grade 2, $750,000 West Virginia Derby is the finest ever assembled in the history of this state.
