ELO design board to meet
The East Liverpool Design Review Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. July 29 in the Planning Department Office to consider two requests by the Museum of Ceramics. The board will consider a certificate of appropriateness application requesting approval of two free-standing signs at the Museum of Ceramics, one along Broadway Street and one along East Fifth Street. Also to be considered is a certificate of appropriateness application requesting approval of a free-standing sign at the Goodwin Baggott Pottery building on Second Street. The files and applications are available for review at the Planning Office in City Hall.
Church to host ice cream social
Grace Lutheran Church will hold its ice cream social from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the church, corner of Walnut and West Grant in East Palestine. In addition to homemade ice cream, hot dogs and sloppy joes, homemade baked beans and macaroni salad and homemade pies will be available. Proceeds will go for new railings in front of the church.
Company gives back to EPES
A Give Back to School Drive to benefit East Palestine Elementary School is taking place at National Cash Advance, 88 Taggart St., East Palestine, now through Aug. 30. Residents can donate paper, pencils, notebooks and box tops for elementary students. Those who donate will be entered to win a backpack filled with school supplies.
Sterling House to host pet show
Sterling House has organized its third annual free pet show for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1 in the outdoor courtyard. Pets will judged on best bark, best tail wag, best dressed and a variety of non competitive categories. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 330-337-9096.
Vendors needed for St. Jude show
Craft vendors are being sought for the annual St. Jude craft show hosted by the Women's Guild. The show is scheduled from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 15 at the St. Jude Activity Center, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana. For an application, call 330-482-2351.
Crafters will work with leftovers
On August 11, 2014 the Salem Public Library will hold its monthly Getting Crafty class at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in the Salem Memorial Building gym. Participants will create items from leftover materials. Rock 45 to perform at Laurel Park
The Route 45 Band will perform its own brand of country and classic rock at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Hollow Park in Newell, W.Va., as part of the Newell Community Improvement Coalition's summer concert series. Band members are Karen Kelly (vocals), Tim Kelly (drums), Ernie Troia (bass) and Wendel "Punky" Marcum (lead guitar). The concert is free and open to the public.
SCT to audition for 'Farce'
Salem Community Theatre will hold audition for the comedy "Unnecessary Farce" by Paul Slade Smith, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 4 at the theatre. A cast of six actors, four men, ages 20-50, and three women ages 20-40 are needed. It is under the direction of David El-Hatten. Rehearsals will begin the first week of August and show dates are weekends Sept. 12-21. Those auditioning should come prepared to read from the script and interact with other actors. It's that time in Palestine
Class schedules for East Palestine High School students will be available from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 12-14 in the guidance office. Orientation for incoming freshmen and new students is scheduled for Aug. 13. Students whose last name begins A-K should report to the high school auditorium at 9 a.m. and L-Z should report at 11 a.m. Students will receive their schedule, necessary forms to be completed and tour the building. Parents are encouraged to attend. Obligations from the 2013-14 school year are due at orientation or when picking up schedules, as are the class fees for the coming year. Checks are to be made payable to East Palestine High School.
