Car show set at Copeland Oaks
Copeland Oaks Retirement Community, 800 S. 15th St., Sebring, will host a classic car show from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Dash plaques will be given to the first 75 cars entered and registration is $5. Proceeds from registration will be donated to the Salem Food Pantry. Car owners will have a chance to win trophies for best of show, people's choice, best stock auto and oldest auto. They will be entered in the door prize drawings. Admission is free to the public. There will also be free hot dogs, snacks and ice cream. Movie to be screened at pool
The Lisbon Pool will host a screening of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" on Friday beginning at dark. Doors open at 9 p.m. Cost is $4, which includes popcorn, drink and a glow stick. Guests can also bring chairs or blankets to sit poolside. For questions, call the pool at 330-424-7548.
Cruise will benefit food bank
The Kooltime Kruisers will host the third annual Midnight Car Cruise to drive out hunger beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Columbiana Pizza Hut. The cruise will be held rain or shine. Car registration is $5 or five non-perishable food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Public admission is free, but spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items. Abundant Life plans Overflow
The sixth annual August Overflow, a one-day community outreach event, is being planned by Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, New Waterford. It will begin at noon Aug. 2 at the church and all services are free. The day will feature free haircuts on a first come, first serve basis; free food, produce distribution, games, bounce-arounds, and an American Red Cross blood drive. There will also be a school supply distribution to students attending Crestview, Columbiana, Leetonia, East Palestine, Lisbon, Beaver Local and Heartland Christian schools. Home school students residing in those districts can receive supplies. To receive school supplies, recipients must bring a report card from the previous school year and/or a driver's license or proof of residency. A classic car show will begin at 3 p.m. Area residents can still donate children's clothing from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays at the church or until 3 p.m. Sunday. All clothing must be clean. Portman's staff to visit county
U.S. Sen. Rob Portman's (R-Ohio) staff will hold office hours from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday at the county commissioners' office at the courthouse. During this time, constituents will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns with a district representative who will provide their feedback to the senator. Famous signature to visit museum
Wellsville Historical Society will host a visit with John Hancock at 2 p.m. Aug. 3 at the River Museum. A Hancock re-enactment will discuss how the United States of America came to be.
Crafters will work with leftovers
On August 11, 2014 the Salem Public Library will hold its monthly Getting Crafty class at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 11 in the Salem Memorial Building gym. Participants will create items from leftover materials. SCT to audition for 'Farce'
Salem Community Theatre will hold audition for the comedy "Unnecessary Farce" by Paul Slade Smith, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 4 at the theatre. A cast of six actors, four men, ages 20-50, and three women ages 20-40 are needed. It is under the direction of David El-Hatten. Rehearsals will begin the first week of August and show dates are weekends Sept. 12-21. Those auditioning should come prepared to read from the script and interact with other actors. Shaker Woods opens Aug. 9
Shaker Woods Festival craft festival in Columbiana will mark its 32nd year Aug. 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24. Along with crafters there will be children classes and entertainment. Performers will include Darryl Gatlin, Cedar Valley Cloggers, Zach Paxson, Black Horse, Cody Gibson, Vanessa Campagna, Northwest Territory, Craig Thomas, Blue Shades, Legends of Music, and more. It's that time in Palestine
Class schedules for East Palestine High School students will be available from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 12-14 in the guidance office. Orientation for incoming freshmen and new students is scheduled for Aug. 13. Students whose last name begins A-K should report to the high school auditorium at 9 a.m. and L-Z should report at 11 a.m. Students will receive their schedule, necessary forms to be completed and tour the building. Parents are encouraged to attend. Obligations from the 2013-14 school year are due at orientation or when picking up schedules, as are the class fees for the coming year. Checks are to be made payable to East Palestine High School.
Food safety focus of program
Jason Holleran, food safety specialist for the Ohio Department of Agriculture, will discuss food expiration dates and food handling safety, as part of the Salem Library's Wellness Wednesday program.
