JACKSONVILLE, FL - Meredith 'Reed' Strohecker, 95, formerly of New Middletown, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 29 in Jacksonville after an extended illness.
Meredith was born on January 9, 1919 in Parkers Landing, PA, a daughter of Irvin M. and Margaret (Kilgore) Colwell. She lived in New Middletown most of her life, until she began traveling to Florida for the winters to be near her children.
Meredith married Homer W. Strohecker on September 18, 1938. She managed local restaurants and motels, and retired from the Fatted Calf Restaurant in Southern Park Mall in 1979.
She enjoyed keeping busy, and assisted her son in cleaning the Jacksonville Jaguars Stadium until she was 85. She attended the Free Methodist Community Church of New Middletown.
Meredith leaves to cherish her precious memory a daughter, Joyce Morain and her husband Jim of Columbiana and Tavares, FL; a son, Larry Strohecker and his wife Carole of Atlantic Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Joylene (Brian) Yoor of Libertyville, IL, Justine (Todd) Burkey of Boardman, Jeffrey (Lindsay) Strohecker of Clearwater, FL, and David (fiancee Eden Guzzo) Strohecker of Atlantic Beach, FL; eight great grandchildren; and two brothers, Dean (LaVon) Colwell of Aurora, CO and Stanley (Joanne) Colwell of Montgomery, AL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Homer who passed away in January 1961, her sister Martha Gray, and her brother Irvin Colwell Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4 at noon at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, with Pastor Renae Meggitt officiating.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to noon at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Meredith's memory to the Free Methodist Community Church, 9900 Youngstown Pittsburgh Rd, New Middletown, OH 44442.
