COLUMBIANA-Michael McDonough fired a complete-game one-hitter and struck out 15 as 10th-seeded Crestview beat 11th-seeded Liberty 4-0 in a Division III sectional opener Wednesday.
McDonough tied Austin Eskra's single season school record for strikeouts.
Crestview (7-9) advances to play at top-seeded Springfield in a sectional final at 4:30 today. The Rebels split two games with the Tigers this season, winning most recently 9-8.
McDonough also paced the Rebels offensively with three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI.
Also for Crestview, Kaden davis was 2 for 4 and Dylan Hart was 1 for 3.

HANOVERTON-The seventh-seeded United baseball team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 eight-inning loss to ninth-seeded Campbell in a Div. III sectional opener Wednesday.
Braden Davison rescued the Eagles (6-13) with a game-tying single in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles gave up an RBI single to Campbell in the eighth.
Garrett Beech carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with 11 strikouts for the Eagles, while Andrew Martin supplied three singles.
Campbell advances to play at third-seed South Range at 4:30 today.
United finishes its season Monday when the Eagles host Crestview in a makeup game.

MINERVA -Minerva fell to Marlington 9-1 in Northeastern Buckeye Conference action on Tuesday.

Minerva was trailing Carrollton, 6-4, through five innings when the Division II sectional game was postponed Wednesday.
