CANTON - Kayla (Witmer) Aluise, 25, of North Lima, ran her first marathon like a veteran.
The former South Range High School standout finished second out of 213 female finishers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon on Sunday.
She covered the 26.2-mile course in a time of 3 hours, 4 minutes and 46 seconds, which was one minute behind winner Joanie Washington, 36, of Sheffield Lake.
Aluise was 18th overall out of 592 finishers.
Jeff Geiss, 31, of East Palestine, was eighth overall (2:58:55).
Other top area finishers were Mark Witmer, Kayla's father, of Columbiana in 78th (3:27:44) and Zach Bloss of North Georgetown in 100th (3:33.02). Bloss ran in his first Boston Marathon six days earlier.
