A Youngstown man was flown by STAT MedEvac helicopter to St. Elizabeth Medical Center Friday night after his motorcycle was struck at the intersection of Lodge Road and state Route 164 in Salem Township. According to the Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Brendan Mallo, 16, Roberts Road, Leetonia, was eastbound on Lodge Road when he pulled from a stop sign and was struck by a motorcycle driven north on state Route 164 by David P. Knapik, 56. A passenger with Mallo confirmed that he had stopped at the stop sign, according to the patrol, who said he will most likely be cited for failure to yield. Mallo and his passenger were not injured, and the patrol said Knapik's injuries did not appear to be life threatening and he was responsive, although he was unaware what had happened. He was wearing a helmet and a full set of leather clothing, troopers said. Leetonia Fire Department and KLG Ambulance responded to the scene, and the helicopter landed in a cornfield at the intersection.
