NORTH LIMA - The 2014 K.O. Drugs high school boxing tournament will take place March 27, April 3 and 10 at the Shops at the North Lima Business Complex in what was the old South Range High School. The 27th annual event is open to all high school boys and girls in Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull and Mercer counties.
The 'double elimination' tournament is made up of 10 weight classes with three divisions - Underclass Division (9th and 10th graders), Upperclass Division (11th and 12th graders) and a Female Division. Preliminary bouts will be comprised of three 45 second rounds with a one minute break in between rounds, while championship bouts will have one minute rounds. The tournament is designed for beginners with safety as the highest priority.
Participants have one of four dates and two locations to choose from in order to sign up and weigh-in for the tournament. Registration will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 1 first in the old South Range High School gym, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 8 and March 15 in the Eastwood Mall's Center Court. Late registration is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. on March 22nd at the old South Range High School gym.
Students under 18 years of age require parental consent. A $25 registration fee is also required to cover the cost of physical exam and health insurance for all participants. Tickets for the event will be $9 for students and $15 for adults and will be available at the door each night of the event. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first bout set for 7 p.m. on March 27th.
