CANTON - East Palestine freshman Faith Anderson took up diving four months ago.
On Wednesday, she placed 19th in the Division II state diving meet at Branin Natatorium at Canton McKinley High School.
Anderson was 18th after her five preliminary dives and advanced to the next round. Three more dives gave her a score of 223.30 and a 19th-place finish.
She came in seeded 23rd out of the 24 divers who qualified for state.
The top 16 divers then got three more dives from the 1-meter board with the top eight earning spots on the podium.
Kettering Alter sophomore Claire Schuermann, who was fourth last year, won the state title with a score of 414.35.
Cincinnati Summit Country Day senior Allison Brophy was second (374.85) and Wellington senior Brittany Anderson was third (360.55). Brittany Anderson came in as the favorite after being the state runner-up the last two years.
Girard sophomore Savannah Teter finished eighth after placing 16th last season.
