Well permit drought ends, one issued in Middleton

LISBON - Columbiana County has its first permit for a new horizontal oil and gas well pad in nearly three months.

Chesapeake Exploration obtained a drilling permit for the Lansberry property on state Route 170 in Middleton Township. The permit was issued last week by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

This brings to 74 the number of new well pad sites permitted in the county since mid 2010. There are a total of 98 permitted wells at these well-pad sites, 46 of which have been drilled and 10 currently producing.

Following a breakdown of the well-pad sites by township: Butler, 5; Center, 5; Elkrun, 7; Fairfield, 5; Franklin, 9; Hanover, 13; Knox, 4; Madison, 2; Middleton, 6; Salem, 6; Unity, 3; Washington, 4; Wayne, 1; West, 2, Yellow Creek, 2.
