KNOX TOWNSHIP - A 54-year-old Hanoverton man was killed when his pickup truck crashed on state Route 172 early Thursday.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident that happened at 7:10 a.m. near Knox School Road. According to their reports, George Chekan III, 32066 Woodale Road, was westbound on state Route 172 when his 2004 Toyota truck went off the left side of the road and over a guardrail end into an embankment and rolled over.

Chekan was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbiana County Coroner's Office, according to the report.

A patrol dispatcher said Chekan was alone in the vehicle and the cause of the crash is still undetermined.
