Lisbon- Joan R. "Joanie" Cope, 78, of West Washington Street, passed away at 11:45pm, Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Vista Center following a lengthy 15 month illness.
Mrs. Cope was born September 1, 1935 in Lisbon, Ohio, a daughter of the late Raymond Ford Reese and Alice A. (Fox) Reese, and had lived in the Lisbon area all of her life.
A 1956 graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Joanie had worked as a plant potter at Campanelli's greenhouse, also as a substitute cook at Lisbon Schools, had sold Christmas Trees in Lisbon for nearly 40 years, and had been the first bulk truck driver for the Morning Journal Newspaper.
She was a member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Pastor Parish relations committee, and had helped in the Kitchen for many years.
Mrs. Cope was also an active member in the West Point Lions Club; a member of the Lisbon Grange, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Iva Chapter; the McDonald's Breakfast Group. An avid Lisbon Blue Devil Fan, she enjoyed walking at the Lisbon High School and Columbiana County Fair Grounds with her lady friends. She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored. She was often seen with them at their various activities throughout their lives.
Her husband, Eli D. "Pete" Cope, whom she married December 28, 1956, preceded her in death July 10, 2011. Her brother, Richard Reese also preceded her in death.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Dianna (Steve) Garofalo of Leetonia; son, Richard (Anita) Cope of Salineville; sister, Betty Houlette of Lisbon; brother, David W. Reese of Iuka, Illinois; grandchildren, Chad J. Cope, Chelsea D. Cope, Nathan Garofalo, and Hannah Garofalo; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pamela Gable officiating. Burial will follow at the Lisbon Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5pm to 8pm, Sunday at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home and from 10am. until the time of services Monday at the Church.

The family would also like to thank the aids and staff of the Vista Center and Vista Center Residents Marvin Detwiler, Lisa Pritt, Michelle Hurst, and Irene Gbur for all of their love and support, her many friends for their concerns and visits; the 1st and 3rd Floor Nurses at the Salem Community Hospital for their care; and her home health care workers, Janie Wherry, Zach Crothers, Carrie Barton, Wilma Haschak, Chad and Monica Talbert, Ann Carlisle, Rebekah Viets, and Tina McNicol for all that they did for her.
