A new name is the latest change for Salem hospital

December 21, 2013
Morning Journal News

SALEM - Salem Community Hospital has announced that it is changing its name to Salem Regional Medical Center, as of the first of the year. The new name acknowledges the hospital's tradition of growth and expanded services, along with reflecting its continued commitment to providing medical services to the region as an independent, not-for-profit medical center.

"We are very excited to launch this new era in our organization's history," said Derek Hiscox, chairman of the SCH board of directors. "After thoughtful and careful consideration, our board determined that a name change was the best way to communicate our organization's continued forward progress as a strong and independent regional hospital."

Hiscox also noted that only the hospital's name has changed - there has been no change in ownership, no change in staff, no change in location, and no change in the mission: To Serve. To Care. To Heal.

"While we are very proud of the 'Salem Community Hospital' name and our 100- year history, our organization has evolved into much more than that name implies," added Anita Hackstedde, M.D., president/CEO.

"We have become a regional destination for patients and community members to receive advanced, high-quality care; that is complemented by innovation and state-of-the-art technology. To that end, our entire organization is looking forward to the opening of our new private patient room tower in 2014, which will provide enhanced services to people throughout the region."

"Our board of directors is committed to maintaining our independence as a strong and vibrant regional medical center," Hiscox continued. "We owe our continued success to our loyal patients and community partners; as well as to all of the members of our dedicated team of physicians, staff and volunteers."

"Moving forward, Salem Regional Medical Center will provide the same high-quality care, delivered by our dedicated team of physicians and healthcare professionals," said John Dawson, D.O., chief of the medical staff.

A new logo is also being unveiled to reflect the name change. Members of the community will be invited to tour the new facility when the hospital hosts open house celebrations, tentatively planned for the end of January 2014.
