Edwin Bayless

December 5, 2013
Morning Journal News

EAST LIVERPOOL - Former Glenmoor resident Edwin D. "Bud" Bayless went home to be with his Lord early Wednesday morning, December 4, 2013, surrounded by his family, at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman, where he had been a patient for several days.

Mr. Bayless, 85, had recently resided at the home of his daughter in Columbiana and had also lived at Parkside Health Care Center in Columbiana during his illness.

Ed was born at home in Belmont, WV on November 17, 1928, a son of the late Bernard C. Bayless, Sr. and Ione Pickens Bayless Barnes. The family made its way to the East Liverpool area when he was a young boy, where he attended East Liverpool High School before joining the Army at the age of 16. He served in Europe during World War II and remained a proud American. Following his military service, he graduated from Ohio Valley Business College with a degree in business.

At one time, Ed had been Superintendent at American Vitrified in East Liverpool until its closing, and was also retired from the Laborers Local #809.

His faith was very important to him, and he was an active member of the Yellow Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.

A loyal family man, he never grew tired of learning new things, and loved being busy whether it was gardening, or travelling to Myrtle Beach, or "tinkering" in his garage. He loved a variety of music anything from Willie Nelson to Big Band.

He was preceded in death on September 26, 2008 by his wife, whom he considered to be his "rock" the former Betty M. Donahue, whom he married on April 9, 1950.

Two daughters and one son survive: Diana "Lynn" Neville of Columbiana, Karen Madden and her husband, Randy, of New Braunfels, TX, and Mark Bayless and his wife, Susan, of East Liverpool. There are six grandchildren: Tyler Bayless and his wife, Molly, Andrew Bayless, Erin Witherow, Brittany Neville, Ashley Chenoweth and Kristen Culp, along with seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew whom he loved.

Ed also leaves behind a sister, Oretta "Mickie" Lockhart and her husband, Al, of Orange Park, FL, and a brother, Richard "Skip" Bayless and his wife, Camille, of Aurora, OH, as well as a sister-in-law, Sue Bayless of Ravenna.

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Marion Bayless, by four brothers: Alfred Bayless, Paul Bayless, Bernard Bayless, Jr., and John Bayless, and by a sister, Norma Jean Riggs.

Pastor Derek Marotta of the church, assisted by Ed's grandson, Lt. Tyler Bayless, will conduct funeral services at the Dawson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will take place at the Yellow Creek Cemetery, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. The family will return to the church for a continued time of fellowship following the burial.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday
