COLUMBIANA Mary Louise Johnston, 87, of Columbiana, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, November 7, after being hospitalized following an apparent heart attack.

Mary was born on August 7, 1926 in East Palestine, a daughter of George Washington and Florence Marie (Garrod) Clark. She was a life-long area resident, except for the short time she lived in the Washington DC area from 1983 to 1990.

She was a 1944 graduate of East Palestine High School, and married Robert D. Patton on May 9, 1947. He passed away on December 13, 1970. Mary married John R. "Jack" Johnston on October 8, 1983.

Mary worked at W.S. George Pottery in East Palestine as a decorator, and later was employed as a seamstress at both Pittsburgh Chair and Franklin-Kenmar Manufacturing. She retired in the mid 1980s.

Mary loved playing bingo, especially winning. She enjoyed her monthly lunches with her high school class.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband of 30 years, Jack; one son, Robert D. Patton II of Odenton, MD; two stepsons, Douglas (Diane Nichols) Johnston of Kensington, MD and Jeffrey (Jan Walsh) Johnston of Albuquerque, NM; and a sister June Lambright of South Daytona, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Robert, a sister Grace Sutherin, and four brothers, Marcus, Dale, Robert, and Eugene Clark.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 11 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at Grace Church, 140 S. Main St., Columbiana.

Funeral services will be held there at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Rob Joy officiating. The services will be followed by a luncheon in the church with the family.

There will be no graveside services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to American Legion Auxiliary, Post 31, 140 N. Walnut St., East Palestine, OH 44413.

The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio is entrusted with the arrangements.
