Richard Whitacre

New Waterford - Richard G. "Windy" Whitacre, Sr., 80 of Pinewood Drive, passed away at 11:15 a.m., Friday at the St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center, Columbiana, where he had been a patient since March.

He was born December 22, 1932 in Rogers, a son of the late Donald and Olive Walters Rice, and had resided in the New Waterford area for several years. Windy had been employed with the Ohio Turnpike Commission for eighteen years, and had owned and operated his own truck for years.

He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Steelers play, and had been involved with the green team in baseball in the New Waterford area, and was a country music fan.

Windy is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Henry; two sons, Richard G. (Tracy) Whitacre, Jr., Columbiana and Dean (Lorri Gouldsberry) Whitacre, Columbiana, and a daughter, Debra (Daryl) Caldwell, Rogers. He also leaves two brothers, James Whitacre, New Waterford and Robert Whitacre, Lisbon, and five sisters, Janice Weingart, Salem, and Ginny Baughman, Linda Wehr, Carol Dickinson, and Karen Wicks, all of New Waterford. He also leaves six grandchildren Daryl Allen Caldwell, Scott Caldwell, Kory Whitacre, Aleah Whitacre, Courtnie Whitacre, and Kayleigh Whitacre; and several great grandchildren, Brittany and Samantha, Ben, Breanna and Dekota, and Rylynn.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Gene Whitacre.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, with his pastor, Rev. Mark McTrusty, officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. today.
