Two Salem residents were airlifted by STAT MedEvac to St. Elizabeth's Health Center in Youngstown following a crash with an Allied Waste Services garbage truck in front of 333 Benton Road, Salem, shortly before 2 a.m. Friday. Perry Township firefighters extricated the car's driver, John Treleven, 28 and his passenger, Tamara Pittman, 32. The driver of the garbage truck, Jesse Chidester, 42, of East Palestine, was gathering trash and not in the truck at the time of impact. KLG Ambulance personnel transported the victims to awaiting helicopters on the Salem bypass. Perry Township and Salem police provided traffic control, closing down Benton Road and the bypass during the crash. Charges are pending, said patrol trooper Vic Wolfe who is investigating the crash.
