EAST PALESTINE, OH Donna Jean Gorby, of Rogers, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in East Palestine. She was 88.
Jean, as she was known, was born in Steubenville on May 28, 1925, a daughter of the late Helen Kramer Stamper and Stokely Fisher. She had spent most of her life in the East Liverpool and Rogers areas, and had attended New Waterford High School.
On September 19, 1941, she married Curtis Harding Gorby, and together, they settled in Rogers to raise their family. Jean was a dedicated homemaker, and later worked in area restaurants, and had also been an Avon representative at one time.
Catholic by faith, she loved to read and do puzzles and crosswords. An avid card player, she also made clothes and did alterations for friends and family.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Mackall and her husband, Kenny, of Calcutta, and two sons, Robert H. Gorby, and his fiancee, Lisa, of North Benton, Ohio, and Rodney G. Gorby and his wife, Lisa, of Frankfort, Kentucky. There are seven grandchildren: Curt, Randy, DeeDee, Reesey, Kristy, Robbie and Danielle; 15 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, who passed away on November 22, 1989, Jean was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Jessica Ann Mackall, her siblings: Earl Weaver, Mary Louise Fisher, Betty Phillips, Ruth Agnew, Virginia Fisher, Frances Goshorn, and an infant brother.
Friends may visit Tuesday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Alan Boone will conduct a funeral service Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Jean will be laid to rest beside her husband at East Carmel Cemetery in Rogers.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
