Marion "Merle" "Kirkie' Kirkbride 92, formerly of Lisbon Street, East Liverpool, OH passed away at Essex III in Salem surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 25, 2013, following a lengthy illness. He was born in New Matamoras, OH on June 9, 1921, a son of the late Henry Martin and Mattie Belle (Eddy) Kirkbride.

Moving from New Matamoras in 1946, Mr. Kirkbride worked as a pipefitter for 37 years at the former Crucible Steel, before his retirement in 1983. He was very much a family man who enjoyed family gatherings and get togethers. He served for 3 years in the US Army during World War II, where most of his time was spent in the Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Post 374 and was a jack of all trades and master of all.

His wife, Vera W. (Hupp) Kirkbride, whom he married August 10, 1946, survives him at home. He is also survived by two sons, Thomas M. Kirkbride and his wife Nancy of Lisbon and Gary D. Kirkbride and his wife Jeri of Atwater, OH; a daughter Barbara Baughman and her husband, Larry of Columbiana; seven grandchildren, Doug Baughman, Jennie Passmore, Myra Kilgore, Amy Coontz, Sarah Julian, Kyle Kirkbride and Brenna Raddish; fourteen great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, four brothers, Thomas C. Kirkbride, Carl E. Kirkbride, Wayne Kirkbride and Virgene Kirkbride and three sisters, Waunita Hartshorn, Rachel C. Nickerson and Elizabeth Kirkbride preceded him in death.

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark Wildes of New Lisbon Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery where the Tri State Burial Group will accord military honors. Following the services at the cemetery family and friends will gather for food and fellowship at the Hospitality Center of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes at 145 West 5th Street, East Liverpool.

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Sunday July 28, 2013 from 2 4 and 6 8 PM
