EAST PALESTINE -A new head basketball coach is coming to East Palestine.

Sean McKeown, a 2008 graduate of Youngstown Ursuline High School, was approved at Monday's board of education meeting.

"The first time I ever went to East Palestine was to interview for the job earlier this week," McKeown said. "But from the minute I walked in, I knew this is where I wanted to coach. Everyone here was so welcoming. I hope we make the community proud."

McKeown replaces Tom Bingham, who stepped down after going 219-131 over 15 seasons at the school.

"I am very excited to work with the athletes and be a part of this community," McKeown said. "I feel very welcome already."

Superintendent George Fisk said McKeown was chosen from more than 20 applications that were sent in for the position. The process took some time because the board was being "very thorough" about who they were choosing, Fisk said.
