Woman on a roll on Ohio Lottery show

June 11, 2013

SALEM - It's still a long way off, but Salem resident Diane Grimm moved one game closer to the Ohio Lottery Cash Challenge record during Saturday's Cash Explosion show.

Grimm first appeared on the June 1 show after her Cash Explosion entry ticket purchased at Cigarette World was drawn from the estimated 20,000 entries the lottery receives each week.

Grimm won a segment of the June 1 Cash Explosion game, advanced to the Cash Challenge against other winners and collected her first $50,000.

That put her in the Cash Challenge last weekend, and she won her second $50,000 - plus an additional $10,000 by selecting a "Bonus" square - to bring her total winnings to $110,000.

Grimm's next appearance on the show will be aired this Saturday.

Under the current game format, the highest amount awarded was $520,000 by Terri Waddell of Maineville in seven appearances in 2012.

"We don't really have a top prize," said Ken Dauenhauer, an associate producer of the show. "Terri was the first half-million dollar winner and we're hoping for the first million-dollar winner."

He said it would take at least 11 appearances to reach the million-dollar mark.

The number of Cash Explosion entries is an estimate, Dauenhauer said, explaining that over-the-counter sales are not counted but online sales are. "You have to be pretty lucky," he said.

Larry Roberts of Salem will appear on the July 29 Cash Explosion show. He purchased his entry ticket at Robert's Country Store on Stratton Road.

The Cash Explosion shows are filmed in Columbus.
