LISBON - A drinking party in Salineville Saturday ended with one man in jail and another with serious knife wounds.

Deputies were called to the area of 77-A Main St., Salineville, where a man was reported cutting people with a knife at 5:26 a.m. Saturday.

Ray E. Callehan, 48, West Main Street, Salineville, was found covered with blood with multiple slice marks around his face. Callehan and his friend James Earich, 55, West Main Street, Salineville, told deputies they were drinking with James Hawk and playing jokes on each other by drawing on each other with markers.

According to the two men, at some point Hawk passed out, but when he came to he reportedly became enraged, grabbed a kitchen knife and went after Callehan with it. Earich was eventually able to grab Hawk and get the knife off him.

Callehan refused medical attention and the two men told deputies Hawk had walked toward his home on McKinley Street.

While searching for Hawk, deputies learned from a clerk he had gone into B and K Carryout while covered in blood, mentioned he assaulted someone and bought two beers. Hawk's mother said he was not home yet and he was found at a friend's house across the street.

When questioned Hawk, 48, at first denied what happened, but reportedly after he was placed under arrest and charged with felonious assault with a weapon, he boasted about how badly he harmed Callehan.

Hawk appeared Monday in Columbiana County Municipal Court, where a June 10 preliminary hearing was set. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
