EAST LIVERPOOL - Dorsey E. Stowers, of West 7th Street, died Friday evening, May 31, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 71.
Born in Hamlin, West Virginia, February 17, 1942, he was a son of the late Darwin G. and Bertha Keysor Stowers.
A resident of this area most of his life, at the age of 16 he began to work at the Speedy Car Wash in East Liverpool and then worked at the Gulf Service Station in Midland. He then owned and operated his own station, Sinclair Service Station in Midland, which led him into the auto body repair business. He worked at several area auto repair shops and ran Stowers Auto Body. He began to acquire local residential properties in the mid-1980s and took great pride in restoring homes and improving neighborhoods.
A tirelessly dedicated and proud worker, above all things he enjoyed driving his dump truck. Although he eventually retired from the auto body repair business, he enjoyed working on his own antique car collection.
His wife survives, Joan Payne Stowers, at home. The couple married December 17, 1960. There are four sons: David E. Stowers, and his wife Sheree, of Prescott, Arkansas; Brian E. Stowers, and his wife Davena, of East Liverpool, and his three children Brian Matthew Stowers of East Liverpool, and his daughter Madison, WV State Trooper Ryan E. Stowers, and his fiancee Chelsea Stockdale, of Chapmanville, WV, LCPL Dylan Leo Stowers, and his wife Shelby, of Havelock, NC; Craig E. Stowers, and his fiancee Carey Stanley, and his three children Matthew Charles Stowers of East Liverpool, Sr. Airman Nicholas Craig Stowers of Marysville, California, Mallory Dawn Stowers of East Liverpool and her child Bella; and Gregg E. Stowers of East Liverpool, and his companion Mary, and his two children Gregg E. Stowers, Jr., and his fiancee Katie Hutchinson, of East Liverpool, and Alex Stowers of East Liverpool.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law Barbara Stowers of East Liverpool and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou "Nelma Jean" McDole and a brother, Darwin "Woody" Stowers.
Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery.
Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
