CANTON - The March death of a Homeworth girl has been attributed to natural causes.

According to the Stark County Coroner's Office Monday, 6-year-old Kiersten Bernier died from an electrolyte imbalance due to vomiting.

Interstitial pneumonitis, a lung disease characterized by scarring of the lung tissue, is being considered a contributing factor.

Kiersten, a student at West Branch's Knox Elementary, died March 1 in the Alliance Community Hospital emergency room after reportedly suffering flu-like symptoms the prior 24 hours.
